Ex SADA TANSEEQ
‘SADA-TANSEEQ’ was the first edition of Joint Military Exercise between India-Saudi Arabia. This exercise was held at Rajasthan, India from 29th January to 10th February 2024. A 45-personnel of Saudi Arabian and 45 personnel of Indian Army participated in ‘SADA TANSEEQ’ exercise.
Aim of the Exercise was to train troops of both sides for Joint Operations in Semi Desert terrain under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter. The Exercise enabled both the sides to share their best practices in the tactics, techniques and procedures of conducting operations in sub-conventional domain. It will facilitate developing interoperability, bonhomie and camaraderie between troops from both the sides.
The Exercise involved Establishment of Mobile Vehicle Check Post, Cordon & Search Operation, House Intervention Drill, Reflex Shooting, Slithering and Sniper Firing. The Exercise provided an opportunity to both the contingents to strengthen their bond. It was act as a platform to achieve shared security objectives, enhance the level of defence cooperation and foster bilateral relations between the two friendly nations.

EX CYCLONE – I
‘Ex Cyclone-I’ was the second edition of Joint Military Exercise between India-Egypt. This exercise was held at Anshas, Egypt from 22nd January to 1st February 2024. A 25-personnel of Indian Army and 25-personnel of Egyptian Commando Squadron and the Egyptian Airborne Platoon participated in ‘Exercise Cyclone-I.’ The first edition of the exercise was conducted in India last year.
The objective of the exercise was to familiarize both sides with each other’s operating procedures in the backdrop of special operations in desert /semi-desert areas under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations. Exercise ‘Cyclone’ was designed to develop bilateral military cooperation and strengthen the relationship between the two armies through rehearsals of tactical military maneuvers and discussions between the two armies.
The exercise involved planning and execution of special operations in the sub-conventional sector and was conducted in three phases. While the first phase included military exhibitions and tactical interactions, the second phase was focused on training on Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), Counter IEDs and Combat First Aid. The third and final phase was involved joint tactical maneuvers based on built-up area combat and hostage rescue scenarios.
Ex DESERT CYCLONE
The UAE Land Forces contingent comprising 45 personnel participated in the 1st edition of the India – UAE Joint Military Exercise ‘DESERT CYCLONE’. This Exercise was conducted in Mahajan, Rajasthan from 2nd to 15th January 2024.
The aim of this Exercise was to enhance interoperability in Sub-conventional Operations including Fighting in Built-Up Area (FIBUA) in desert/ semi desert terrain under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter on Peace Keeping Operations. The Exercise enhanced cooperation and interoperability between both the sides during Peace Keeping Operations.
Drills planned to be rehearsed during Exercise ‘DESERT CYCLONE’ include Establishment of a Joint Surveillance Centre, Cordon and Search Operation, Domination of Built-Up Area and Heliborne Operations. The Exercise will also foster collaborative partnership and help in sharing best practices between the two sides.
Exercise ‘DESERT CYCLONE’ signifies further strengthening of bonds of friendship and trust between India and the UAE. The Exercise aims to achieve shared security objectives and foster bilateral relations between two friendly nations.
Ex KHANJAR
The 11th edition of India-Kyrgyzstan Joint Special Forces Exercise KHANJAR was held at the Special Forces Training School in Bakloh, Himachal Pradesh. The exercise was scheduled to be conducted from 22nd January to 3rd February 2024. It was an annual event conducted alternatively in both the countries.
A 20-personnel of Indian Army from Parachute Regiment (Special Forces) and 20-personnel of Kyrgyzstan contingent from Scorpion Brigade participated in ‘Exercise Khanjar.’
Aim of the exercise was to exchange experiences and best practices in Counter Terrorism and Special Forces Operations in Built-up Area and Mountainous Terrain under Chapter VII of United Nations Charter. The exercise will emphasise on developing Special Forces skills, advanced techniques of insertion and extraction.
Ex DHARMA GUARDIAN
The 5th edition of Joint Military Exercise ‘DHARMA GUARDIAN’ between the Indian Army and the Japan Ground Self Defence Force was held Mahajan Field Firing Ranges in Rajasthan. The Exercise is scheduled to be conducted from 25th February to 9th March 2024.
Exercise ‘DHARMA GUARDIAN’ is an annual exercise and conducted alternatively in India and Japan. The contingent of both sides comprises of 40 personnel each. The Japanese contingent is being represented by troops from the 34th Infantry Regiment and Indian Army contingent is being represented by a Battalion from the Rajputana Rifles.
Aim of the Exercise is to foster Military Cooperation and enhance combined capabilities to execute joint operations in semi-urban environment under Chapter VII of United Nations Charter. The Exercise would focus on high degree of physical fitness, joint planning, joint tactical drills and basics of special arms skills.
Tactical drills to be practiced during the Exercise will include establishing of Temporary Operating Base, creating an Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) Grid, setting up Mobile Vehicle Check Post, executing Cordon and Search Operations in a hostile village, Heliborne operations and House Intervention Drills. A Weapon and Equipment Display will also be organised showcasing ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative and the growing defence industrial capability of the country.
Exercise ‘DHARMA GUARDIAN’ will enable the two sides to share their best practices in Tactics, Techniques and Procedures of conducting tactical operations. The Exercise will also facilitate developing inter-operability, bonhomie and camaraderie between troops of both the sides. This will enhance the level of defence cooperation, further fostering bilateral relations between the two friendly nations.
Ex Samudra Laksmana
Exercise Samudra Laksamana was conducted between 28 Feb – 02 Mar 24 at Visakhapatnam. Indian Naval Ship Kiltan and Royal Malaysian Ship KD Lekir had participated in the 3rd edition of this exercise.
At harbour, crew of both ships will have various professional interactions, Subject Matter Expert Exchange on topics of mutual interest, sports fixtures, and other interactions. These interactions are aimed to enhance knowledge base, share best practices and further cooperation on maritime aspects. The exercise aims to strengthen bonds and enhance interoperability between the Indian and Royal Malaysian Navy.
Ex Tiger Triumph
Exercise Tiger Triumph, a bilateral tri-services exercise, was conducted from 18 Mar – 31 Mar 2024 between The Indian Navy and US Navy in the Kakinada region of Andhra Pradesh. In the exercise, the integral craft onboard the ships were deployed to undertake various operations, according to an official statement. Additionally, Cross Deck helicopter operations were also undertaken between the ships of the Indian Navy and the US Navy off Kakinada.
The seamless conduct of multifaceted coordinated operations is indicative of the joint planning and execution, reaffirming the high degree of interoperability between the Armed Forces of the two nations. The Sea Phase of Exercise Tiger Triumph 2024 commenced on Wednesday, with Indian Navy and US Navy ships sailing out together.
This phase in Visakhapatnam will witness Service personnel from both countries going through various facets of amphibious operations, including coordinated HADR and MEDEVAC. The opening ceremony of the exercise took place onboard INS Jalashwa on March 19. Earlier on Sunday, a pre-sail conference was conducted at Visakhapatnam to discuss the nuances of the upcoming sea phase of Exercise Tiger Triumph 2024. The aim of the exercise was developing interoperability for conducting HADR operations and refining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to enable rapid and smooth coordination between forces of both countries.

Ex LAMITIYE – 2024
The Tenth edition of Joint Military Exercise “LAMITIYE-2024” between the Indian Army and Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF) held at Seychelles from 18-27 March 2024. ‘LAMITIYE’ meaning ‘Friendship’ in the Creole language is a biennial training event and has been conducted in Seychelles since 2001. 45 personnel each from the GORKHA RIFLES of the Indian Army and Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF) had participated in the exercise.
The Exercise will enhance cooperation and interoperability between both the sides during Peace Keeping Operations. The exercise will also build and promote bilateral military relations in addition to exchanging skills, experiences and good practices between both armies
Both sides will jointly train, plan and execute a series of well-developed tactical drills for neutralization of likely threats that may be encountered in Semi-Urban environment, while exploiting and showcasing new-generation equipment and technology. The 10 days long Joint Exercise will include Field Training Exercise, combat discussions, lectures & demonstrations, which culminates with two days of Validation Exercise.
Ex DUSTLIK – 2024
The 5th edition of joint military Exercise DUSTLIK between India – Uzbekistan held at Termez in Uzbekistan from 15th to 28th April 2024. Exercise DUSTLIK is a yearly event conducted alternatively in India and Uzbekistan. Last edition was conducted at Pithoragarh (India) in February 2023.
45 personnel from the Indian Army majorly from a Battalion of the JAT Regiment and 15 personnel from the Indian Air Force participated in the exercise. The Uzbekistan contingent comprising approximately 100 personnel, from Uzbekistan Army and Air Force, will be represented by personnel from Southern Operational Command, part of South-West Military District.
Aim of Exercise DUSTLIK is to foster military cooperation and enhance combined capabilities to execute joint operations in mountainous as well as semi urban terrain. It would focus on high degree of physical fitness, joint planning, joint tactical drills and basics of special arms skills.
Tactical drills to be practiced during the exercise will include creation of a Joint Command Post, establishing an Intelligence & Surveillance Centre, securing of landing site, Small Team Insertion & Extraction, Special Heliborne Operations, Cordon and Search Operations, Room Intervention Drills and Demolition of illegal structures.
Indian Armed Forces Domestic Military Exercises 2024
Ex Jal Prahar
Indian Navy and Indian Army Biannual Joint Exercise Jal Prahar concluded on 31 Jan 2024. The exercise witnessed participation of amphibious units of ENC integrated with troops of an Infantry Brigade of Indian Army. The Sea Phase included various amphibious facets including air operations by naval aircraft and beach operations, consolidation of joint training and validation of SOPs to enhance synergy and jointmanship amongst the Armed Forces.
Ex Vayu-Shakti
Indian Air Force demonstration exercise Vayu-Shakti 2024 was held on Saturday evening at the Pokhran Range near Jaisalmer in Rajasthan. The exercise showcased the IAF’s offensive and defensive capabilities across the day and night. This year’s Vayu-Shakti exercise featured joint operations with the Indian Army, highlighting the seamless coordination between the two branches of the armed forces.
A total of 121 aircraft participated in the exercise, including indigenous aircraft Tejas and helicopters Prachand and Dhruv. Internationally renowned aircraft like Rafale, Mirage-2000, Sukhoi-30 MKI, and Jaguar also showcased their strength. Advanced helicopters like Chinook, Apache, and Mi-17 were also in action. The demonstration also showcased indigenous Surface to Air Weapon systems, Akash and SAMAR.
Ex Gagan-Shakti – 2024
Gagan Shakti 2024 was a complex exercise that was scheduled, from 1 to 10 April, 2024. The aim of 10-days Exercise Gagan Shakti 2024 was to test its capabilities and preparedness for high-intensity operations. ‘Gagan Shakti’ was last held in 2018 when the IAF clocked more than 11,000 sorties during the two-phase air manoeuvre that saw the concentration of the force’s deployed assets move from the western sector to the eastern front in less than 48 hours.
The IAF will host ‘Tarang Shakti’, a mega exercise that is expected to bring together 12 global air forces in August 2024, with a focus on improving interoperability, imbibing best practices from one another and boosting military cooperation among the participating countries.
Ex Poorvi Lehar – 2024
Indian Navy conducted Exercise Poorvi Lehar on the East Coast under the Operational Control of The Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command. This extensive exercise along the East Coast as part of efforts to check its preparedness to meet any maritime security challenges. The exercise ‘Poorvi Leher’ witnessed participation of ships, submarines, aircraft and special naval forces. The exercise was aimed at validation of procedures towards assessment of the Indian Navy’s preparedness to meet maritime security challenges in the region.
