AFCAT, which stands for Air Force Common Admission Test, is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the Indian Air Force. It serves as the gateway for aspirants who want to join the Flying Branch, Technical Branch, and Ground Duty Branches (both technical and non-technical) of the Indian Air Force as commissioned officers.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Nationality: Candidates must be Indian citizens.
Age: For the Flying Branch, the age limit is generally between 20 and 24 years, and for the Technical and Ground Duty Branches, it’s between 20 and 26 years.
Educational Qualifications: The educational qualifications vary based on the branch you’re applying for. Generally, candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field for technical branches and a bachelor’s degree in any discipline for non-technical branches.
EXAM PATTERN:
AFCAT is conducted twice a year, usually in February and August.
The exam is conducted online and consists of multiple-choice questions.
It includes four sections: General Awareness, Verbal Ability in English, Numerical Ability, and Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test.
The duration of the exam is two hours.
Each correct answer is awarded three marks, and there is a negative marking of one mark for each incorrect answer.
SELECTION PROCESS:
AFCAT Written Exam: Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria must first clear the AFCAT written exam.
SSB Interview: Shortlisted candidates from the written exam undergo a five-day selection process at one of the Air Force Selection Boards (AFSB) located across India. The SSB interview assesses candidates’ intelligence, personality, and suitability for a career in the Air Force.
Medical Examination: Candidates recommended by the AFSB undergo a thorough medical examination to ensure they meet the required medical standards.
Final Merit List: The final selection is based on the candidate’s performance in the AFCAT written exam, SSB interview, and medical examination.
