What Does “Recommended by SSB” Mean?

  1. Screening Test: This is the initial stage, comprising an Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) test and a Picture Perception & Description Test (PPDT). Candidates who pass this stage move on to the next round.
  2. Psychological Tests: These are designed to assess the candidate’s mental makeup and include Thematic Apperception Test (TAT), Word Association Test (WAT), Situation Reaction Test (SRT) and Self Description Test (SD).
  3. Group Testing Officer (GTO) Tasks: These are outdoor tasks that test a candidate’s ability to work in a team, leadership qualities, and physical fitness. These tasks include group discussions, group planning, progressive group tasks, and individual obstacles, among others.
  4. Personal Interview: The interview with the SSB panel assesses a candidate’s general knowledge, awareness, personality traits, and suitability for the Armed Forces.
  5. Conference: The final stage involves a discussion among all assessors who have evaluated the candidate over the previous days. The candidate is then either recommended or not recommended based on the collective evaluation.
  • Leadership Qualities: The candidate has shown potential to lead and inspire a team.
  • Mental Toughness: The candidate has demonstrated the ability to remain composed and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Team Spirit: The candidate has shown a cooperative attitude, crucial for functioning in a military environment.
"Recommended by SSB" indicates that a candidate has successfully passed the rigorous selection process conducted by the Service Selection Board.
